In Action

At Deux Vert we believe that outstanding wine starts with great grapes that are nurtured in a sustainable diverse environment. Our vineyard is dry farmed, LIVE and Salmon Safe certified. We also invest in soil health and are preserving the oak trees and savannas on site. We added bees to the property, collect rain water for non-vineyard irrigation and use solar panels to generate electricity.

Apiary At Deux Vert

Initiatives

  • At Deux Vert, vineyard care and management is guided by Results Partners. Together, we have established practices and plans that will preserve the vineyard for generations. Our vineyard is Dry Farmed, LIVE and Salmon Safe certified. We utilize science and experience to determine required investments to improve our soil and enable production of great grapes.

  • 97% of the historic oak habitat in Oregon has been removed for fire suppression, development and conversion to agricultural land. The Oak Accord is a voluntary conservation group committed to protecting and restoring the native oak habitat in Oregon. Deux Vert is a signatory to the Oak Accord and has used Riedman Land Stewardship to create an environment in which our 120+ oak trees and savannas thrive. Guests of the vineyard are welcome to hike through our self-regenerating oak grove.

  • Bee populations around the world are declining. Reduced pollination is a threat to a healthy diverse environment and the production of food and flora we enjoy. The addition of bees and flowers to our site is a part of our commitment to a better environment. Our apiary was established and is nurtured by Matt Getsinger the Oregon Beekeeper.

As a thank you for providing a safe environment our bees provided us with 82 pounds of honey in 2023. The short pollination season lead to a concentrated honey that carries notes of Oregon Botanicals specific to our AVA with hints of brewers grains, caramel and plum.

  • The vineyard at Deux Vert is dry farmed which means we do not irrigate our grapes but use the moisture contained in the soil that the 35 inches of annual rain in Yamhill provides. We also capture rain that falls on our barn roof for non-vine irrigation needs on site. We use solar panels to provide 11,000 kw per year of electricity to the site saving 8 tons of CO2. On average each Oak tree absorbs 48 pounds of CO2 per year per tree, preserving and encouraging regeneration of our oak grove saves 3 tons of CO2 per year.
